Corduroy Cotton
The story

Corduroy is a pile fabric: extra weft yarns floated over the base weave and then cut open, which is what makes the cords stand up and catch the light along their length. Ours is 100% cotton. The shirting is Portuguese and the shirt is made up in Portugal; the jacket is made up in Macedonia, from a Spanish cloth certified to the Organic Content Standard. Washing is the same for both: 30°C, inside out, with a mild detergent and no tumble drying. Ironing is not. The shirt goes inside out at medium heat and the jacket is not ironed at all.

Why choose it

For the shirt and jacket that do the work on texture alone.

01

Pile, not print

The cords are cut into the weave, so the texture is structural rather than a surface effect.

02

Certified cotton

The jacket cloth carries OCS certification.

03

Two ways to iron it

The shirt is ironed inside out at medium heat. The jacket is not ironed.

04

Where it is made

The shirt is made in Portugal from Portuguese cloth. The jacket is made in Macedonia from Spanish cloth.

What you pay for

Steven Bomber Jacket: €239 here. €349 average market price.

Average market price is what a comparable piece costs from a brand that sells through other people's shops: department stores and multi-brand retailers. That price has to carry the brand's margin and the shop's margin, stacked. Ours carries one.

Margin is not profit. It goes to getting the piece to your door: shipping, returns, the warehouse. Then to running No Label: the team, the stores, the fit sessions, the photography. What is left goes into next season's fabric. On sale pieces there is often nothing left at all, because overstock is money sitting in a warehouse and we would rather it moved than marked up.
